GROUND Vietnam has successfully organized many health programs in Can Tho, which is the largest city of the magnificent Mekong Delta in the south of Vietnam. Not only does GROUND Asia try to create valuable learning experiences, but we also try to introduce some unique and impressive destinations for students to visit in their free time. Therefore, they can relax after their hard-working weeks and embrace the culture. Cocoa garden in Phong Dien district, Can Tho city is one of the must-see destinations for visitors in Can Tho. It is famous not only for various kinds of Southern fruits and cocoa gardens but also for products made manually from cocoa.

The first image when coming here in the visitors’ eyes is a refreshing and spacious place. The city is well-known as a community tourist site of My Khanh commune, Phong Dien district, Can Tho city. Arriving at the garden, visitors will visit and enjoy many kinds of seasonal fruits. Visitors can take part in some activities at the garden and experience the life of the farmers in the countryside to feel the honesty of the local people.

Cocoa is considered as an industrial tree, but it is grown in the orchard with many different trees. Especially after the harvest, farmers not only export rough cocoa but also process cocoa with manual methods into final products that are sold to visitors.

With farmer’s skilful hands, cocoa extract can be developed into main ingredients for some products, such as cocoa wine, cocoa candy, cocoa butter, cocoa powder, cocoa chocolate, cocoa sugar, etc. Cocoa processing is quite elaborate. After picking, cocoa is peeled, fermented, dried, roasted, and crushed. Different processes are depending on the product you want. Besides processing, cocoa fruit can be eaten raw. Its flavour is particular, unlike mangosteen, Southern Ha Chau mulberry, wampee, Northern brindle berry, cocoa has the sweet and sour of a refined taste which is difficult to describe. Farmers in this garden informed us that cocoa butter is perfect for the skin as it is rich in vitamin E and collagen, which can reduce wrinkles, ease stress, boost the immune system and block cancer.

Visiting a cocoa plantation, visitors will have chances to learn how to make cacao and try it for themselves, as well as learning the values of cacao products. GROUND Asia designed unique outdoor programs in summer for students who relish the local culture and new adventures. Let’s come to Vietnam and experience it!
