Ground Asia Collaborative Program for Healthier Indonesia | GROUND Asia
Author : GROUND Asia | Tag : Indonesia, Service Learning
One of GROUND Asia’s flagship programs in Indonesia is the health program. In this program, GROUND Asia develops deep collaboration with various stakeholders because we want to assure sustainability in our programs. GROUND Asia works with governments, health workers, and the community to carry out both curative and preventive activities related to health.

One of the activities we do is called the school roadshow. In this activity, we invite participants to collaborate with health workers and local schools to deliver preventive health knowledge. This activity was initially made because GROUND Asia wanted to support the Indonesian government program called Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat (PHBS) or in English, Clean and Healthy Lifestyle. The school roadshow develops students’ awareness of healthy behaviors so they, as members of the community, can help themselves to maintain health as well as play an active role in health activities in the city. Topics presented vary and are adjusted to the level of the school visited, ranging from how to wash hands properly and correctly, how to brush teeth, how to deliver the first aid for cut wounds, to the dangers of smoking.

During this pandemic, the school roadshow has been incredibly beneficial. One of the topics that we consistently raise, which is also one of the indicators of PHBS, is washing hands with soap and clean water. At present, everyone is aggressively recommending handwashing to reduce the risk of contracting Covid-19. Thus, we genuinely hope that students who are involved in the school roadshow still remember the steps to wash their hands properly. Or rather, we hope they inform and encourage their families to do so.
This project makes us confident that our steps to work in collaboration with the government and incorporating joint efforts are appropriate. We indeed require a collective effort to make Indonesia healthier, and GROUND Asia is taking part in our educational programs.
After this pandemic has passed, we undoubtedly want to resume our efforts. We would want you to get involved, so don’t hesitate to contact us.
