Vietnam is best known for beautiful beaches along its S-shaped coastline, tranquil old quarters with a mixture of French and Chinese culture, and historical sites across the three regions of the country. But Vietnam has so much more to offer students once they’ve finished exploring those famous sites, like getting off the beaten track and trekking through the mountainous area of Pu Luong in the North Central Coast region of Vietnam.

Stretching from Mai Chau in the northwest to Cuc Phuong National park in southeast Vietnam, Pu Luong is blessed with tropical dense forests, limestone scenery as well as spectacular rice terrace views. The 17,662 ha nature reserve is also home to Muong and Thai ethnic minority people. Trekking through Pu Luong, gives students the chance to experience local people’s daily and participate in local cultural activities.

Off the beaten track in Pu Luong

A trek in Pu Luong can be tailored to you and your students’ preference; from 1 day to 4 days through several small villages such as Kho Muong, Don, Du or Hieu. Be sure to pack good hiking shoes or trainers, bottles for refilling water and most importantly, a camera as you’ll definitely do not want to miss any of Pu Luong’s spectacular views of green mountains, paddy fields, natural streams, peaceful villages and ethnic people in traditional costumes.

When trekking in Pu Luong, you and your students will be able to interact with local people and will be assisted by a local tour-guide, stay in local homestays and have traditional meals in ethnic people’s way. All of these responsible tourism activities directly contribute to the community and improve local economy.
