Food Science Program with GROUND in Indonesia invites students to explore the taste of Indonesian foods as well as to understand the local food culture. In this program, students can learn about diversification of food sources in Indonesia by visiting some plantations and farms. They will identify a broad variety of foods, both traditional and acculturated foods, complete with an understanding of their manufacturing methods through factory visits.
Furthermore, food in Indonesia reflects the culture and spiritual values of the local community. Therefore, students are also invited to understand the philosophical meaning behind each food and its symbolic role in local traditional ceremonies. In terms of health studies, the program will also invite students to see the effects of people dietary and consumption habit on public wellbeing. In terms of social studies, they can observe the role of food in socio-economic development, as well as its impacts.
