A Sample 21-Day Tour Itinerary
The following itinerary is an example that is based on a three-week (21 day) study tour in Thailand and Vietnam. Its length and focus can be customized to fit the needs of university faculty members, students, and specific course objectives.
Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok
Attend an orientation and briefing on safety, health and emergency planning, and then explore the streets of Bangkok. Attend a welcome dinner.
Day 2: Bangkok
Attend a lecture on Thai business culture and take a boat trip along the Chao Phraya River to hear a lecture on Bangkok’s river system and its importance to the local economy. In the evening participate in a fun Thai cooking-class/team competition event.
Day 3: Bangkok
See Bangkok’s historic sites and then visit the local headquarters of a leading multinational company to learn about their business strategies in Thailand.
Day 4: Bangkok
Visit the American Chamber of Commerce to learn about the key trends and issues facing foreign businesses in Thailand. Then attend a network event with business executives from the local community.
Day 5: Bangkok-Chiang Mai
Fly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Enjoy a traditional Thai dinner on the Ping River and then visit the night bazaar.
Day 6: Chiang Mai
Visit the key historical and cultural sites of Chiang Mai. In the evening network with local university business students.
Day 7: Chiang Mai
Visit the local office of a Thai company to learn about their business strategies in Thailand.
Day 8: Chiang Mai-Bangkok-Pattaya
Fly from Chiang Mai to Pattaya via Bangkok. Enjoy an evening boat tour of the local port facilities.
Day 9: Pattaya
Spend the day exploring the area, spending time at the beach, etc.
Day 10: Pattaya-Rayong
Tour a free-trade zone located in Rayong and attend a briefing by the management of a local industrial park.
Day 11: Pattaya-Bangkok-Ho Chi Minh City
Travel from Pattaya to Bangkok and then fly to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
Day 12: Arrive in Ho Chi Minh City
Attend a safety and security briefing and orientation session. Explore the streets of Ho Chi Minh City, followed by a welcome dinner.
Day 13: Ho Chi Minh City
Visit Ho Chi Minh City’s historic sites, attend a lecture on Vietnamese business culture and take a boat trip along the the Saigon River.
Day 14: Ho Chi Minh City
Visit the American Chamber of Commerce to learn about the key trends and issues facing foreign businesses in Vietnam. Then visit the local manufacturing plant of a Vietnamese firm to learn about their business and export strategies.
Day 15: Ho Chi Minh City
Visit the local headquarters of a global law firm to learn about the legal environment of doing business in Vietnam. Participate in a fun Vietnamese cooking-class/team competition event.
Day 16: Ho Chi Minh City-Hanoi
Fly from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital. Hanoi is known for its centuries-old architecture and a rich culture with Southeast Asian, Chinese and French influences.
Day 17: Hanoi
Visit key historical and cultural sites of Hanoi such as Ho Chi Minh’s Tomb, The War Museum, Hoan Kiem Lake and One Pillar Pagoda.
Day 18: Hanoi
Visit a free-trade zone to learn about the operations and activities of these zones.
Day 19: Hanoi
Visit the local manufacturing plant of a Vietnamese SME to learn about their business strategies in Vietnam, then attend a briefing at the US Embassy about US – Vietnam trade relations.
Day 20: Hanoi-Bangkok
Fly from Hanoi to Bangkok. Attend a final debrief and farewell dinner.
Day 21: Bangkok-Return Home
Check-out of hotel; catch flights home or remain in the region to join another tour, internship, or for personal travel.
