A Sample 21-Day Tour Itinerary
The following itinerary is an example that is based on a three-week (21 day) study tour in Thailand. Its length and focus can be customized to fit the needs of university faculty members, students, and specific course objectives.
Day 1: Arrive in Bangkok
Attend an orientation and briefing on safety, health and emergency planning, and then explore the streets of Bangkok. Attend a welcome dinner.
Day 2: Bangkok
Attend a lecture on Thai business culture and take a boat trip along the Chao Phraya River to hear a lecture on Bangkok’s river system and its importance to the local economy.
Day 3: Bangkok
See Bangkok’s historical sites and then visit the local headquarters of a leading multinational company to learn about their business strategies in Thailand.
Day 4: Bangkok
Visit the American Chamber of Commerce to learn about the key trends and issues facing foreign businesses in Thailand, then network with business executives from the local community at an evening event.
Day 5: Bangkok-Chiang Mai
Fly from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Enjoy a traditional Thai dinner on the Ping River and then visit the night bazaar.
Day 6: Chiang Mai
Visit the key historical and cultural sites of Chiang Mai. Enjoy the afternoon at leisure.
Day 7: Chiang Mai
Visit the local office of a Thai company to learn about their business strategies in Thailand.
Day 8: Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai
Take a bus to Chiang Rai. Visit an elephant rehabilitation center to learn about the challenges of animal tourism.
Days 9-10: Chiang Rai
Attend a briefing on Thailand’s hill tribes, then trek to a hill-tribe village to spend the night with local families as part of a project run by a local NGO.
Day 11: Chiang Saen-Mae Sai
Walk across the border bridge into Tachileik, Myanmar, observe cross-border trade, and to shop and visit some local temples, then visit the Hall of Opium Museum. Make a quick boat trip across the Mekong River to visit a special economic zone of Laos.
Day 12: Chiang Rai-Bangkok-Pattaya
Fly from Chiang Rai to Pattaya via Bangkok. Enjoy an evening boat tour of the local port facilities.
Days 13-14: Pattaya
Spend these free days exploring the area, spending time at the beach, etc.
Day 15: Pattaya-Rayong
Tour a free-trade zone located in Rayong, and attend a briefing by the management of a local industrial park.
Day 16: Pattaya-Bangkok
Take a bus from Pattaya to Bangkok and then visit the headquarters of a leading MNC to learn about their business strategies in Thailand.
Day 18: Bangkok
Tour the local headquarters of an international institution such as the World Bank to learn about economic trends in Thailand.
Day 19: Bangkok
Attend a briefing at the US Embassy about US – Vietnam trade relations. In the eventing participate in a fun Thai cooking-class/team competition event.
Day 20: Bangkok
Final debrief and farewell dinner.
Day 21: Bangkok-Return Home
Check-out of hotel; catch flights home, or remain in the region to join another tour, internship, or for personal travel.
