Help paramedics provide primary health care in Sri Lankan universities, hospitals and rural communities.
At a glance:
This program invites students to deepen their understanding of the challenges and reality of paramedicine in rural Sri Lanka. Local professionals will show students how different Sri Lankan healthcare systems work, and how creative problem solving can make a big difference. Students will also visit the undergraduate facility of a private medical institute where they’ll get the opportunity to discuss with local students and lecturers about their programs, and spend time in the institute labs. Then they’ll visit one of the most prestigious universities in Sri Lanka and engage in extensive discussions, with the opportunity to get experience in public hospitals and visit rural villages to practice primary health care with the aid of local health officers.
The experience will allow the students to learn about , practice and share knowledge with the local undergraduate students in both private and public faculties of medicine and government health care officers. The program takes place in the western and southern parts of Sri Lanka.
Communities and Project Impact:
This project provides support for the over-stretched and under-resourced paramedics in Sri Lanka. It also helps provide much needed care for people unable to visit clinics due to limited mobility.
Students will be mentored by local staff during each placement, to ensure that the host and students get the most out of the placement.
