Phuket is one of the top destinations in Thailand. Talking about Phuket, people will think of the beautiful beach, island, and nightlife. But Phuket has more than that. This small island in the south of Thailand has so many dimensions in tourism. Apart from the beautiful beaches, Phuket has a successful CBT (Community based-tourism) and environmental service-learning places for visitors who are willing to do the activity that can contribute a tremendous impact to the community and environment.
Today, GROUND would like to show you a service-learning placement in Phuket, where it provides a lot of fun activities that will have a tremendous impact on the environment. Marine National Park Center 2 in Phuket is one of the government departments under the Department Of National Parks, Wildlife, and Plant Conservation. This center is responsible for studying, surveying, and developing the innovation to manage the National Parks and plant conservation. Also, they collect the information for evaluating the condition of natural resources, especially the vital resource and the impact of tourism on the natural resource.
There are activities of reforesting the mangroves at the center and collecting rubbish along the canal. Behind the center’s main building, there is a vast area of mangroves forest that belongs to the center, and the forest connects to the canal that can get through the sea. To plant the mangrove at the center, you will have to walk along the wooden bridge built higher from the ground to support when the water level gets higher. You can only plant mangroves when the water level is low; the coolest thing is local staff will have a book that can forecast the level of water in advance. So we have to make sure that we booked the activity beforehand. After planting mangroves, you can enjoy kayaking in the canal with mangroves’ shade and collecting the rubbish, such as plastic, to keep it clean and reduce pollution in the water. There is a spot where you can enjoy playing in the water as well. After you use all your energy with those activities, it’s time to regain your strength with delicious Thai food. There is a local restaurant in front of the center where you can try local Thai food.
The Marine National Park Center 2 is perfect for one-day service-learning activities, which allow you to have fun while making a good impact on the environment. Small acts can better the world.
